It took years before an MP realised that Geneva exhibition did not have any academic or commercial merits as reported in The Star. Geneva exhibitions were famous among lecturers/ researchers in Malaysia. Click the following links to see how many 'awards' were bought by selected universities in 2006:
According to Dr Wee (the MP), one foreign exhibition, the organisers imposed 650 euros (RM3,200) for participants who had yet to commercialise their products, 180 euros (RM831) for each metre of exhibition space used and 370 euros (RM1,709) to rent a display counter. How much taxpayers money were 'dumbly' spent...hahaha...
To be fair, some universities including USM and UMS already imposed strict rules/ requirement to attend this exhibition. Read more here. Really hope they did not simply send any Tom, Dick and Harry to attend the exhibition.
p/s: It's a shame I didn't have a chance to attend the exhibition hahaha...I'm very sure MOSTI or KPT will do something after this..
