This thesis would not be possible without the invaluable support and guidance from various people throughout my academic journey at the University of Auckland. First and foremost, I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to my supervisor, Professor Wei Gao for his appreciable guidance in both academic affairs and personal matters throughout my study and my stay in New Zealand. I would like to express my hearty appreciation to Dr Alec Asadov for his endless help, guidance and valuable discussion especially in the works related to XRD and structural studies.
Special thanks also go to Dr Zhengwei Li for the valuable discussion and especially in the technical support in magnetron sputtering throughout my study. I also appreciate the technical supports from the people from the Chemical and Materials Engineering Department, especially Catherine Hobbis and Steve Strover. I would like to extend my thanks to Dr Adrian Turner and Dr Yulung Chiu for their help on TEM. I acknowledge the fruitful discussion with Dr S. Parnov from the Chemistry Department.
Associate Professor Kazuhiro Kusukawa and Mr Fujiwara from Kochi University of Technology Japan also deserve my sincere gratitude and appreciation for the collaboration in the work related to PZT film by high temperature hydrothermal. It is an honour and a great pleasure to work with them throughout the project.
Special thanks are extended to Professor Ma Jan and Dr Li Tao from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore for the valuable insights and technical support during my visit to the university.
I am grateful to all my colleagues in Professor Wei Gao’s research group, both present and former, for their valuable comments, technical and personal supports. Working beside them has been an honour and a true pleasure.

Wish me luck!
Wish me luck! I really need it...Never thought I will be in this 'nervous stage', counting my experience and exposure. :-D Well, God knows why..
Oo my Rabb,
Open my heart,
Ease my task,
and remove impediment from my speech,
So that people may understand what I say.
(Surah To'ha 25-28)

Reason...Season..Lifetime...
When someone is into your life for a REASON, it is usually to meet a need you have expressed outwardly or inwardly. They have come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide you with guidance and support, to aid you physically, emotionally, or spiritually. They may seem like a godsend, and they are. They are there for the reason, you need them to be. Then, without any wrongdoing on your part or at an inconvenient time, this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end.
Sometimes they die. Sometimes they walk away. Sometimes they act up or out and force you to take a stand. What we must realize is that our need has been met, our desire fulfilled; their work is done. The prayer you sent up has been answered and it is now time to move on.
When people come into your life for a SEASON, it is because your turn has come to share, grow, or learn. They may bring you an experience of peace or make you laugh. They may teach you something you have never done. They usually give you an unbelievable amount of joy. Believe it! It is real! But, only for a season!
LIFETIME relationships teach you lifetime lessons; those things you must build upon in order to have a solid emotional foundation. Your job is to accept the lesson, love the person/people (any way); and put what you have learned to use in all other relationships and areas of your life. It is said that love is blind but friendship is clairvoyant.

The dirtiest by-election in history
"The dead MP bring more good to rakyat" than when he's alive..Look at Ijok, the dead MP rewards the rakyat with new mosque, temple, MB office, school, road etc under the expense of taxpayers' money...unbelievable..Why Ijok ONLY??
What interest me the most is 'personal attack' between BN and PKR.
PKR with lame issues on Najib involvement in Althantuya murder and commission on Ministry of Defense (MOD) purchased. I still have doubt in PKR, what is their main objective? Everything is about Anwar, which make me feel sick..better name the party-Party Anwar Ibrahim & Cronies..:-) When Anwar was in cabinet, what was his contribution to fight corruption, misused of power, misused of taxpayers money? The last 5 years when he was in power, Malaysia economy was in a good shape, but he did not take the opportunity to improve internal issues. I just don't get it why he's 'barking' now!
BN also attack PKR candidate about his involvement in 20% Guthrie share. In my thoughts, BN agreed they have power to 'award' any share to whoever they want. Also, the denial from MOD was only appeared on mainstream media 2 days before by-election, which is so unfair to opposition and rakyat to get a clear picture on the issue.
The announcement by Khir Toyo to place a MB representative in Ijok if BN win the by-election don't give any credit to their candidate. It sort of admits that their candidate did not have enough experience to become MP. Khir Toyo himself did not get full support from rakyat. With gossip around the corner about his facial treatment in his office..Unbelievable, MB and MP still have time for unnecessary thing. Look back 2-3 years back, his face more like Javanese (no offense to Javanese). Nowadays, I think he can even become talk-person for Neuvoux Vissage (not sure the spelling)...Oppss this is personal attack...
I definitely agree with Tun Dr Mahathir , rakyat must send a sign to government or MPs, if you don't work you can go fly kite :-D
I wish both PKR and BN best of luck..If BN win, it's because of the 'bribe' and 'promises' they made. If PKR win, rakyat send a clear message to BN MPs to work harder in the future...I bet BN will win this by-election...
* I believe next GE is around the corner..My 'beloved MP' which disappeared since the last election, made a few press statements in his constituent this few months..:-) isn't it ironic?

Orang Utan woes- it's just business...
The claim that Malaysia and Indonesia killed thousands of orang utan for palm oil plantation is completely ridiculous. It's common for western country to use 'activists' for their own good :-) It's just a threat to their soy oil industry...
I still remember in 1990s, western country claimed that palm oil contained high cholesterol and complex polymer chain that may cause cancer, which caused significant dropped in palm oil market. As a result, the demand for soy oil was significantly increased, in which western country was the largest producer...that's how business works! Rob from the poor, give to the rich...
Western country need to realise although Asian countries like Malaysia and Indonesia are the largest oil palm producers and exporters, they are not competitor to western country. Although palm oil dominate 24% of global oil market, it barely enter western and European market. Thank goodness, we have large population in Asian countries..

Proton-Finally, something to proud of..
Utusan reported that Proton is in the top 5 of the fastest selling car in Australia in the first quarter 2007, beat Kia and Hyundai. Isn't it amazing? While, Proton barely survive in Malaysia, reported lost since last year, they manage to pull out and sell their brand overseas. No doubt they use the word 'Japan technology' for promotion, but it's still a good achievement! Bravo...
Since Perodua launched Myvi, Proton's sale dropped significantly. Nothing much to be proud of about Myvi, it's a re-brand from Daihatsu Sirion. No wonder Perodua got contract to supply Dathaisu Sirion to Indonesia :-D Anyway, interior-wise, I give thumb up to Perodua for redesign the interior...Sirion's interior sucks!
Anyway, back to the topic. Although most Malaysian think Proton is collapsing, I believe they can pull out. First and foremost, Proton needs to run the business like business-not influence by government or politician. Proton doesn't need to have collaboration with AP king's company (we know who :-)) for Proton has a more mature technology. Proton has to understand the main requirements for Malaysian buyer:
